Parfum Sacre c1989

Parfum Sacre by Caron: launched in 1989, in USA in 1991. Created by Jean-Pierre Bethouart of Firmenich.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as an amber-spicy floral oriental fragrance for women.
  • Top notes:  clove, pepper, lavender, cinnamon, coriander
  • Middle notes: rose, jasmine, orange blossom, mimosa
  • Base notes: amber, myrrh, vanilla, musk

Bottles:

The original vintage version of Parfum Sacre was available in extrait (parfum), eau de parfum and eau de toilette in various bottles  packaged in either black or gold boxes. These bottles all followed a similar teardrop shaped design based on the bottle used for the 1940s  Caron perfume called Or et Noir which featured a pair of bees on the stopper.

  • The Eau de Parfum and Parfum (extrait) were originally presented in a gold lacquered glass bottle, then in a clear glass bottle with a gilded cap.
  • The Parfum (extrait) came in all over gold lacquered glass bottles for the 1/2 oz and the 1/4 oz bottles.
  • The eau de toilette was presented in a clear glass bottle with a gilded stopper.
  • Bath and body care included smooth body milk and soap (bain sacre).
  • Also presented in a green opaline rounded flacon made by Verrières Brosse.

A change in packaging occurred around 2001 and the eau de parfum was then presented in the standard Caron peppercorn studded flacon with the dome shaped gilded cap. These bottles were housed in white boxes trimmed with gold and the bottles had matching labels with the same color scheme.

However around 2010, the packaging was given an update and the box color and label were given a shade of purple. Another addition was the cylindrical spray flacons covered in faux shagreen tinted purple, it was simply adorned with a gilded cap and a metal tag emblazoned with "Parfum Sacre".

Fate of the Fragrance:

In 2013, Parfum Sacre was reformulated, possibly due to IFRA regulations on an ingredient or two. These new bottles are tall, rectangular and have long rectangular gilded labels, topped with an opaque white cube shaped cap.

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a spicy oriental fragrance for women, with dominant myrrh and pepper notes.
  • Top notes: mimosa, pepper, cinnamon, cardamom
  • Middle notes: clove, orange, rose, jasmine
  • Base notes: myrrh, vanilla, musk
